Welcome to San Anselmo
A bright and shining example of a picture-perfect community
Often referred to as the entryway to the Bay Area, San Anselmo is a bright, shining example of what every community strives to be. A regular calendar of local fairs, parades, and concerts has given both residents and visitors ample opportunities for communal recreation without having to wander into busy and bustling central San Francisco. San Anselmo is conveniently located near interstate arteries that make commuting straightforward.
One of northern California’s most close-knit communities is spoiled for choice when it comes to cozy locally-owned eateries. Comforts, one of the area’s favorite cafes since 1986, has aimed to offer both modern and down-home comfort food to local townspeople. One of Marin County‘s multi-award-winning establishments has built a loyal following based on their top-selling dishes like fried chicken sandwiches, cupcakes topped with homemade cream cheese frosting, and French toast. Comforts also offers a wide variety of retail products in their on-site marketplace, like their housemaid dressings and sauces, wine, candies, cookbooks, and other limited edition seasonal items. D.G. Cafe has built a similar following based on simple food, like coffee, baked goods, sandwiches, and salads, done very well. Dessert fans will enjoy Flower Craft Bakery and their gluten-free selection of freshly made seasonal offerings, just-baked goods, and fancy loaded toasts featuring local northern California ingredients. The Hub is a popular option for more hearty offerings, like their 100% grass-fed burgers. A vegan-friendly Beyond Meat patty can be substituted into any burger from their menu, like their house specialty topped with aged white cheddar, caramelized onions, and housemade sauce. It’s not just the local restaurants that have made San Anselmo the close-knit community it is today — you’ll find an array of boutiques as well. Fig Garden is an eclectic and playful gift shop in the heart of downtown and the perfect place for patrons to pick up jewelry and home decor. Other shopping days can be spent at the Red Hill Shopping Center, a comfortable collection of locally owned and nationally recognized businesses. Locals also enjoy gathering at the San Anselmo Country Fair Day and Parade, taking place every fall. An annual pancake breakfast is followed by the parade and is concluded with a music and food festival in Creek Park. In October, the community also looks forward to free concerts downtown on Fridays and Saturdays, featuring an impressive lineup of some of the region’s most talented musicians.
