Kentfield

This hidden gem is a truly precious neighborhood institution with an exciting collection.

Welcome to Kentfield

A quiet hidden gem among California’s natural beauty

Just two miles southwest of downtown San Rafael against a backdrop of untouched hillsides and mature trees, Kentfield is one of the quietest neighborhoods in all of northern California. Hillside homes situated upon dramatic cliffs off of winding streets are not far from several trails and nature preserves, including the ones leading uphill to Mount Tam. Kentfield is a short drive away from both Highway 101 and Interstate 580, giving locals easy access to downtown San Francisco and the greater Bay Area.

Kentfield is home to several small businesses adored by locals. One of these, Guesthouse Marin, serves up wood-grilled cuisine and classic cocktails inspired by seasonal, local ingredients and California's famous west coast charm. Their rotating menu features the best produce and protein of the season to elevate comforting classics. Lobster roll “sliders,” posh fried chicken, and spiced banana cake are a few of their top-selling dishes. After, wander next door to First Street Books, one of only five independent bookstores in Marin County. This hidden gem is a truly precious neighborhood institution with an exciting collection of entertaining reading materials. Another favorite fuel spot is Half Day Cafe, just off of Highway 101. This first-come-first-serve establishment is situated in spacious, airy, historic digs. Across the street, The College of Marin is a local community college offering over 50 academic areas of study and several technical programs to aid students in training for the future careers of tomorrow.

Residents from all walks of life take depreciation in the community’s many hiking and biking trails, offering scenic views of the Bay and northern California tree tops. Baltimore Canyon Preserve spans over 193 acres to the base of Mount Tamalpais. Locally referred to as simply Mount Tam, this symbolic mountain peak encompasses over 45,000 acres. Several biking trails stretch across the sloping mountainside, ranging from simple beginner rides all the way up to expert-level treks. The neighboring Phoenix Lake Loop is a heavily trafficked 2.8-mile pathway along the edges of Phoenix Lake, suitable for all fitness levels. This trail is dog-friendly and accessible all year long. Kentfield is also less than 20 miles from downtown San Francisco, making work (or play) commutes into the city simple and effortless.
